Burn down your glycogen stores. Did you know that it’s practically impossible to gain weight from carbohydrate-rich food if your glycogen stores are empty? Glycogen is the storage form of carbohydrates in the body. You can think of it as a battery. Each person stores about 1800 calories-worth of glycogen on a regular basis. If this store of glycogen in the body is burned, the body will prioritize replenishing this “battery” before storing any food as fat.
