Television in restaurants

OK, this is a pet peeve of mine.

When I go out to eat, i don’t want tohave a wide scree TV blaring the news at me.

I make it a point NOT to watch much news anyway.

I was meeting some friends at a very nice deli the other day. The only table big enough for us all was sqap-dab in front of the TV.

I asked the waiter to turn it off and he was horrified!

"I can turn it down but not off, I will get into trouble," he said."The other customers want to listen".

I looked around and not ONE customer was looking at the TV.

Would you go tell your boss that we come here to eat and visit one another and NOT to watch the news?

Poor fellow, he was so flabbergasted!

But, he did turn it way down.

I left him an extra nice tip for at least TRYING.

Maybe if more people expressed their opinion about this issue, the "Dining with catastrophe" would go out of vogue.

This is different than a sports bar where people go there on purpose to watch sports, of course, I cannot think of any place I would rather NOT be than a sports bar…but that is just me.

Oh I do soooooo agree with you Rebecca !

Back when I had TV (I pulled the overpriced cable plug over a year ago and don’t miss it a bit!) 1/2 the treat of getting to go out to eat was that we could actually have a conversation without competing with what was on TV!

There used to be a restaurant that I really liked the food … but they had (literally!) a dozen TV’s with little tuner boxes on your table. Give me a break! Are people really that addicted??

No wonder noone has time to do anything.
