Caring for Orphaned Chihuahua Puppy

Here’s What Happened…

Thursday morning I awoke with the strange sense of urgency get in your car and drive to South Texas where my former husband and 4 of my children live.

I tried to resist but the urgency grew so strong it was almost panic.

Of course I argued with the “feeling “I… need to stay here and work (I needed to let  people know the coupon for the Orgasm class was expiring) HERE

And… I needed to work on getting out the announcement about my new “psychic reading” program.

However the FEELING was so insistent I finally threw some stuff in the car and started driving to South Texas. The closer I got, the more the feeling of panic subsided.

My Former husband, Henry (now best friend) has a beautiful Chihuahua and she was due to have her first litter of puppies. I was very excited about that. On the drive down, I received a text telling me some terrible news.

The mother, Betsy had died during a C-section and spay.

*The plan was- to let her (Betsy) have one litter (for keeping- not selling) and then spay her.

Poor Henry was so heartbroken – we were blubbering together! I was so glad I was there to comfort him.

Betsy only had one puppy and our biggest goal became to save him.

One day old

One day old

The vet said we had to be sure and feed the baby every two hours without fail or he would grow weak and die!

Henry set his phone to go off every two hours and we took turns feeding the baby! I can’t believe how attached I got- even when I took my turn sleeping I would wake up and be afraid the alarm had not gone off.

The trouble is…no matter how diligent you are with the feedings- they are no substitute for mothers milk and that shin to skin contact.

I learned more about feeding a newborn puppy then I ever believed possible.

Did you know that after you feed the puppy you must mimic the action of a mother dog licking him with her tongue?

The  licking stimulates the Pee Pee and Poo Poo… no licking equals no Pee Pee and Poo Poo.

Since neither Henry or I were willing to go that far…to simulate the mothers tongue ,we used a warm wet cotton ball

It worked like magic he barely begin to stroke the tiny tiny little Chihuahua Pee Pee and a stream of urine came forth.

I have never felt so proud to see pee and poop in my life!

Meanwhile, a dear friend, Lita, was busy trying to find a surrogate mama for Baby. That would give him his very best chance for survival.

Lita called every shelter in town to see if there were any small female dogs lactating that would be willing to help.

When she did not have any luck this route she had the brilliant idea to check  craigslist.

She called folks who had  Chihuahua’s pups for sale, asked if the mother was still lactating and if they would be willing to be a surrogate for our precious little puppy.

Finally she found one angel of a man who agreed to let his mama dog nurse our pup.

We went over there straight away and found a most kind loving man. His name is Jose…but I call him, Angel!

Jose (Angel) and Rebecca

Jose (Angel) and Rebecca

The mama dog was just waning her three pups and when she saw our little pup she immediately took charge!

It brought tears to my eyes to see how this mama dog took in our orphaned baby!!!

The mama dog immediately lay down and offered her breast to our sweet little darling you should have seen him go to town…he nursed greedily like he NEVER did with the bottle!

I tried to give the man money to let the puppy stay there a few days a nurse but he didn’t want anything.

He just loved animals and wanted to help we offered to buy him dog food we offered everything we could think of and he just wanted to help.

Finally, Henry  asked ” isn’t there anything we can do for you?”

The angel man said, ” Yes, I would like to get this mama dog “Fixed”  as soon as she gets done nursing your puppy.”

So of course we offered to pay for it…

so no more puppies brought into the world and our Baby gets a surrogate mom to take care of him until he is weaned.

I send a big wave of love out of this angel man who cared so much about the life of a puppy he had never seen before and there was nothing in it for him it was from the goodness of his heart

A wave of gratitude goes out to the mama dog who so selflessly gives of her breast milk and gives life to this sweet or orphaned puppy. I know Betsy is looking out from heaven so happy we are taking care of her baby!

Mamma Cheekie, nursing baby for first time.

It was good to get a good nights sleep even though every two hours I was slightly thinking about the puppy

People are so good people are so kind people are so loving and it warms my heart to see the goodness of people

So that’s why I haven’t been taking care of my business lately

To make up for it I will extend the coupon for the orgasm class until Wednesday. HERE

Love and blessings Rebecca

PS soon I will announce my know now psychic reading offerings be looking for that
